ONLY IN Albuquerque:
So... it's my lunch hour and I'm getting my hair trimmed by my longtime hair designer, Leonard. The storefront where he cuts hair faces a busy thoroughfare, and is right across the street from a Big 5 Sporting Goods store. Leonard is trimming and chatting away; there are 3 other stylists with customers, also trimming and chatting, along with classic rock radio coming from ceiling speakers. I'm halfway listening to all of this when I catch the phrase "firetruck in the Big 5 parking lot". That gets my attention.
Now, Leonard is telling me that his boss, Morse, is a retired fireman. He is also telling me that Morse, who is in the middle of a cut and style on a little old lady, is going to go across the street and move the firetruck around back of the Big 5 building, just like he did a while back!!! Now, he's definitely got my attention!
I'm sitting there looking out the window while Leonard is blow drying and chatting, and there goes Morse across 4 lanes of lunch hour traffic. He hops in the empty firetruck, the backup lights come on, and proceeds to back the firetruck (AFD #15) to the end of the lot and around beside the end of the Big 5 building. Anyone coming out of the front of Big 5 -- specifically all the firemen that are in there and don't have a clue what's going on -- won't be able to see the firetruck until they walk to the end of the building and look around the corner.
Holy Cow. How much do those firetrucks cost, anyway? I found out that firetrucks don't have ignition keys! You just hop in and turn it on! Yikes!
Morse jogs back across 4 lanes of lunch hour traffic, laughing his ass off, along with all the rest of us in the hair shop. He proceeds to finish his trim and style, and we're all waiting to see the reactions of the firemen when they come out of Big 5 and can't find #15. Unfortunately, my trim & style were done before they came out, but I called Leonard about 1:20 to see what happened. Apparently they didn't come out for a while. (What are those firemen all doing inside the Big 5 for almost an hour???)
According to Leonard, as they emerged from Big 5, they all looked really nervous, then a couple went around the left of the bldg, and a couple went around to the right. Morse came out in his parking lot and hollered at them. (Apparently they were slightly pissed. haha.) They proceeded to drive the firetruck in front of the hair shop and told Morse "he shouldn't have done that".
Right.
Only in Albuquerque......

GOOD LUCK HIKING DOWN INTO THE GRAND CANYON! Mary Jane, Mark, Kelli & Sue!!!
YESTERDAY was Edwina's 83rd birthday, and she got 5" of snow in Yates Center for her B-day. We talked to her on the phone last night, and she sounded just great. Her package that we mailed her evening arrived right on time.
We are enjoying our rainy days here in the high desert. The dreary clouds are wonderful!

We finally get rain in Albuquerque, only to find out from www.abqjournal.com that Albuquerque's aquifer is being depleted much more rapidly than expected. Oh joy!
On a more cheerful note:
Only 6 weeks til the home opener for the Albuquerque Isotopes!!!!
Woo-Hoo!!!

Spontaneous lyrics (and I wasn't even loaded!)
"I kissed my baby tonight, he tastes like a cinnamon roll.
He's got the greatest loving heart and a whole lotta soul.
It took me by surprise but it tasted so good.
I'm gonna kiss him again cause it puts me in the mood."
and we can't stop laughing.....

As was the case with The Fellowship of the Ring, each subsequent viewing of The Two Towers is more engrossing and captivating than the time before. I am hopelessly hooked on Peter Jackson's take on Middle Earth. I'm ready to go see it all over again tomorrow!
All the snow is melted, except for spots that stay in the shade all day. A little moisture is better than none...

I wish I was in Roanoke, VA today. I talked to my Mom this morning, and she had about 5" of beautiful, new snow at her house. She sat in front of her warm, crackling fireplace yesterday evening watching it fall. She made a big pot of homemade soup, and a bunch of cookies! My brother, Randy, already came by this morning to scrape her sidewalk. Sounds like a great way to spend the day, to me.
We are still high and dry in Albuquerque...... at least it is Friday!

More sun.... No snow.... We are still waiting patiently for precipitation.....
It sure does help to clear the mind, center the thoughts, and find that place of inner peace and clarity of the soul.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RHONDA!!!!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
We are finally getting a little more like winter around Albuquerque. My patio thermometer is reporting in at 24 deg this morning. Now, if we would just get some snow, we would be much happier. Apparently there is a chance later this week.... crossing our fingers.
I wish I weren't so busy at work right now. I'd feel more like learning more about enhancing my website. Instead, I am deep into learning VPN, and configuring our Firewall. ahhh the joys of network administration. The website will have to hang out in it's present streamlined state. I enjoy changing the background colors, and putting a new picture on my Zen link. I'll even put Mark's new picture of Chile Boy up sometime this week!

I borrowed this link from Matt's website. It is a radar .gif showing the final debris and vapor picked up by weather radar. It is the streak that breaks up south and east of the clutter that is Shreveport, LA.

I found it to be a meditative way to reflect on the final moments of the crew. I feel their souls are at rest.

I was going to expound upon the wonderful bonfire we attended last night, in celebration of Chinese New Year.
In light of the shocking news of the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy, I will forego describing our evening at this time.
We send our thoughts and prayers to the crew of the space shuttle and their loved ones.
