Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

Summertime has arrived in Albuquerque! We've got plenty of blue skies, little puffy white clouds, and "an airport temperature of 85 deg!" Although the clock on the bank says 91. We've been having thundershower activity in the area each afternoon. We didn't get any precip last night, but it was cloudy, and the storm was way off on the western horizon. Our swamp cooler has been working beautifully.

Friday night should be just perfect for an Isotopes baseball game! Woo-hoo! I'll definitely be ready for a cold brewskie after this week of network weirdness at work. Oh well, it goes with the territory.

We sipped a couple of Jack Daniels Lynchburg Lemonades over the holiday weekend, and I think I've acquired a taste for them! Nice and tart.

We spent the night in Clinton, OK, last night. The trip back was pretty relaxing. The traffic didn't get hectic until we got about 100 mi east of Albuquerque, then it was just thick.

We had a nice shower in Abq last night -- even some thunder and lightning. It's always good to get back home after a road trip.

Spent the night last night in a little motel in Tucumcari, NM. Eastern New Mexico is wide open spaces. There was a slight haze to the air this morning, but plenty of sunshine and very little clouds as we drove across the panhandles of TX and OK.

We made it all the way to Yates Center, KS -- 100 Mi east of Wichita. We saw some of the tornado damage as we came into town. It's very humbling to see a large tree that has been snapped off like a twig. Thankfully, all is calm in these parts for the holiday weekend, and YATES CENTER DAYS!

I just love my husband's hometown. Right now, it is green and lush from all the rain. I'll fall asleep hearing crickets outside the window.

We had yowling howling winds on Monday night. We awoke Tuesday morning to find all manner of weird debris deposited in our yard, and up and down the street. This morning is wonderfully CALM.

We're looking forward to our first real road trip in our VUE. We head east to Kansas right after work tonight. We figure to make it to Tucumcari, or someplace a little further east before stopping for the night. Yates Center, KS.... Here we come!

Wow! We spent pretty much our entire weekend up on the roof working on our swamp cooler. And it's WORKING! We didn't get to do much of anything else this weekend, but we did do lots of maintenance and repair to the swamp cooler, and that was the main objective for the weekend.

It's a good thing, too. It was darn HOT on Sat night. We would have tossed and turned all night if we hadn't gotten that cool air going. Sunday morning brought a few more fix-it items for the swamp cooler, but we took care of it and had it back into action by 6pm. I was worn out by the end of that day. By the time we went on a walk and I cooked dinner it was time for Sopranos and Six Feet Under. Then it was time for bed!

Well, since it's supposed to get up to 96 deg around here on Sunday, we better get our swamp cooler up and running tomorrow (or TONIGHT!). We're definitely going to climb up on the roof to measure what size of pads we need for that sucker. We're hoping to get at least one more year out of that thing! It's a good thing swamp coolers don't take much more electricity than a hair dryer to run.

Finally got rid of the "anesthesia fog". That took about 3 wks to work itself out of my system. Amazing.

We gotta go see X-Men Reloaded!

YOWZA!!!! We sure do have some excellent weather going on in Albuquerque the past few days. There's some wind here and there, but the nighttime temps are down in the upper 40s, and days in the 70s, with a good mix of sun and clouds. It just doesn't get any better than this!

I just had lunch, and I'm actually perky this afternoon. Must be because I got such a great report from my surgeon. I'm doing GREAT.

Thank you, God.

We went on a little shopping expedition to Target this evening, to get some household items. As we were at the checkout stand, this tall guy in a baseball uniform was behind us. Ater we made our purchase, we overheard the cashier remark about the "misspelling of his team name". We turned around and checked it out: the team logo emblazoned in 3" CAPS across his chest said
DESCIPLES
He was joking that they didn't make the printer of the uniforms redo them. Guess it's a local church league team.

Anyway, I started thinking about it, and just burst out laughing... exactly what is it to be "de - scipled"?

Not sure what this could mean, but after we got home I was motivated put on Joni Mitchell's "Blue" -- the VINYL circa 1971!! Haven't played that album in about 15 yrs. Gee, it still sounds great after all these years. She is just a class act -- always has been. Courtney Love eat your heart out. You'll never hold a candle to someone like Joni.

I spent the better part of the past 2 weeks, during my recuperation, reading a book that Wayne recently picked up on sale: Jimmy McDonough's biography of Neil Young. Guess that's what put Joni Mitchell in my mind. Anyway, it's really well written slice of Neil Young's life. But, by the time I was about 3/4 the way through this huge tome, I was ready to just scream and throw the thing against the wall if I read one more sentence about how "Neil just walked away" or "Neil was once again changing direction" or "Neil has no idea how much he hurt those guys" or "Neil was just using Crazy Horse" or "Neil was just using CSN"...... It's a great bio for a Neil Young fan, but reading it is like playing one of Neil's really old albums that's full of nicks and scratches, but you still play the hell out of it anyway; then it gets stuck and starts playing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over.........................
