BUMPER STICKER OF THE WEEK:
Never Underestimate the Power of Stupid People in Large Groups
I got a good laugh out of that one, and I think it speaks for itself.

STOMP!
We just saw a performance of STOMP this afternoon, and it totally kicks butt!! I had been wanting to see STOMP for 10 yrs now, ever since I saw that awesome Coca-Cola TV commercial with the guy in the frozen warehouse with oil drums strapped to his feet!!! The peformance met every expectation. I'm now full of rhythm, and every household item is a percussion instrument. Check it out if you get a chance.
The new Student Union Building on the UNM campus is finally finished renovation. It's been under construction for about 3 yrs now. We never thought they'd ever get it done, but we happened to walk on the campus last weekend and, Lo and Behold! the SUB was finished and open!!!! It's gorgeous inside! Slate floors throughout and architechturally elegant. The best feature is a bank of comuputer terminals tucked away down on the third floor. Free internet access! We stolled over there after the STOMP performance and checked our e-mail, and did a little surfing. It's our favorite place on campus!
This is only about the 2nd or 3rd time I've sat down with Wayne's new wireless laptop. It's fun to just sit here on the couch in front of the TV with the laptop actually in my lap, and Blog! At some point I'll have to install a wi-fi card in my little notebook.
We wish it would cool down some here in ABQ. It's just still hot as the dickens, and we still haven't gotten any measurable rain in over a month. We need to do a rain dance! It's clouding up out there, but it doesn't look like we're any closer to our monsoon season kicking in. We keep hoping and praying.......

I sure do love going to Isotopes baseball games. That new ballpark and that new team are one of the best things to happen to Albuquerque since I've lived here. The 'Topes came from behind to win the game. The last game I went to a week or so ago, they pulled one out in the bottom of the ninth!!! Now THAT's a team worth rooting for!!!
We're staying inside today. It's in the upper 90s. It will cool off around sunset, and we'll go for a nice, long walk. I found some wonderful blueberries and peaches at Costco this afternoon. I'll practically live on those this week. Yum!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY JANE!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No measurable rain here in Albuquerque in over 3 wks! We need some of that Claudette storm to come up this way, but it looks like it's staying well to the south. :(
Just another day out here in the high desert.
Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type
Highly recommended reading, then eating:
http://www.dadamo.com/
No, this isn't some trendy fad diet to lose weight (I don't need to lose any weight). This is a diet based on scientific fact -- chemistry -- the chemistry between your body and blood system, and what you feed yourself. I think this book should be required reading for everyone. If you are like me, you will be astounded to find out how much stuff you've been eating all these years that is actually very bad for your body! I was amazed to find out that bananas, oranges and tomatoes are really bad for Blood Type A. I've been eating all of these nearly every day of my adult life. Not anymore!
I've been loosely following eating for my blood type for about 2 months, now, and I am starting to notice a real difference in my overall energy level and well-being. It just keeps getting better. Mainly, I've been staying away from stuff that the diet recommends to avoid. My allergies are pretty much non-existent, my thinking is more clear, my skin is really clear, and I just feel good inside.
I wish I would have read this book 20 years ago!!!
A Lucy Original "Quickie Summer Recipe"
It's already gotten at least one rave review! Ingredient quantities are flexible.
Chilled Broccoli Salad
Lightly Steam a big bunch of broccoli florets (Qty depends on how big you want your salad)
Do not overcook -- broccoli should still be slightly firm (al dente)
Chill steamed broccoli
Drain and rinse 1 can of black beans
Drain 1 can (6-10 oz)chunk tuna packed in spring water
In large mixing bowl, add chilled broccoli, black beans and tuna. Season with your favorite salad seasonings. I like these:
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 t ground celery seed
1 t dried basil
1/4 - 1/2 c creamy peppercorn dressing (or your fave dressing).
Toss gently until salad dressing is absorbed and seasonings blended
Serve chilled with pita bread (Cynthia's idea) and blue corn chips (my idea).
Now, we need Cynthia's Tabouli recipe, and we're all set!
Pour me another glass of that Fetzer While Merlot!!!! YUM!!!
It sure is nice to have a 3-day weekend. It was particularly nice to have Friday off, rather than Monday. Dunno why, but it just seemd to work out better that way.
We saw a splendid fireworks display on Thursday night at the Isotopes game. It was a great way to kick off the long holiday. We didn't go to any fireworks displays on the 4th, because we'd already gotten our "fireworks fix" the night before. Instead, we went to a nice movie theater that only cost us $2 apiece. We saw "X-Men 2" ( I think that was the name of it). Anyway, it was a great way to spend the evening of the 4th, and we enjoyed every minute of it.
It's back to work as usual in the morning.
Lettuce Wraps!!!
I have tried them, and they are GOOD! Especially if you're like me, and you enjoy light, chilled food when the temp is 95 deg outside. Really good for watching carbs and calories.
I was intrigued by an ad I saw in the SW Airlines mag on my flight back home last Wed -- the latest food drama -- lettuce wraps. I decided I wasn't going to go to that expensive Asian restaurant in Las Vegas or Dallas, or wherever the heck it was, just to try lettuce wraps. I had decided I was going to make them myself. Fortunately for me, I happened to run into them on the menu at Chili's this evening. They were tastey and just perfect for this hot evening. I would advise, however, it's a good idea to pat the big pieces of bib lettuce dry before serving.
The filling was crunchy and delightful: shredded carrots & water chestnuts, almonds, dry rice noodles, and warm stir-fried teriyaki/sesame chicken. Just perfect, with two sauces on the side -- more teriyaki, and a smooth peanut sauce. Yum!
Gonna be making more of those.
Geek FYI:
* If you wireless loses it's signal, reboot the WAP.
* Right now, Costco has a good deal that seems to be getting better. Last week you could get a combo D-Link WAP w/Wi-Fi card for your notebook for $125. This evening, it was down to $109! I think I'll wait another week or two and see if it gets down to $89!
OK, I'm never gonna wanna get up at 5:30 in the morning if I don't get my butt to bed.
