Prehistoric Cave Art
I have been interested in prehistoric cave art for a long time. As a matter of fact, back in 1995, it was the second subject I ever searched for on the internet.
In southern France, the Chauvet Cave was discovered in 1994. It is one of the most recent discoveries of prehistoric, undisturbed cave art. It totally blows my mind that artwork of this sophistication was created by humans 35,000 years ago.
Here is the website for Chauvet Cave.

It is one of the best websites I've ever visited, and it is incredibly fascinating to view and read about the artwork created so many millenia ago.

Two Thumbs UP for The Rundown !!!
We were adventuresome today, and decided to go see a matinee showing on the first-day run of the new action/adventure/comedy starring The Rock. It was definitely worth seeing at the matinee price, and even if we'd gone to a full-price showing, I'd feel like we'd gotten our money's worth.
The Rock did a great job. We liked him in The Scorpion King, and look forward to seeing more of him. The movie is unpretentious, and we laughed good belly-laughs throughout the entire flick. We loved the ending! If you feel like laughing for a couple hours, and seeing some very good special effects, go check it out.

We saw the movie at the new downtown theater. Afterwards, we strolled around, and, much to our amazement, found an art festival in full swing. They had several blocks closed to traffic, with lots of booths and lots of exquisite fine art by local artists. If we'd known about it ahead of time, we would have made some purchases. We took time to mention to several of the artists that word of the event had never reached our ears. What a disappointment to find that there wasn't more media coverage ahead of time. It's the artists that suffer with that obvious negligence on the part of whomever was in charge of advertising the event.

I'm glad to be back from my 2-day business trip to Las Vegas. I stayed at the Luxor Hotel (again), and I can't say enough about how much I enjoy staying in the modern-day pyramid. I totally worked my butt off the 2 days I was there. What a burnout. I was glad to get back home Thursday evening. I was glad to be working in my office in Albuquerque on Friday!!

Fun in downtown ABQ on a Friday night...
Last Friday night, Wayne & I did something we haven't done in quite some time -- we went carousing in downtown Abq. As it turned out, the weather was just perfect. There was only a slight balmy breeze, and stars in the sky. There was quite a crowd downtown by the time we got down there, around 10pm. We needed something to munch on, so we hit the NYPD (aka New York Pizza Dept) and got slices of pizza to go. We took our pizza and walked down the street and around the corner to The Taproom. It's a wonderful, tiny little place on 2nd St, between Central & Gold. They serve fresh microbrew from Blue Corn Brewery -- $3/pint. They don't serve food, and they don't mind if you bring your own. So, we sat and enjoyed our NYPD slices with tastey pints of Blue Corn Microbrew. We were sipping an Octoberfest amber ale, and it was mighty fine.
We ended up there til around midnight. From there we strolled up Gold to a small, unassuming bar right beside Burt's Tiki Lounge. There was some very heavy metal going on inside Burt's, and some very heavily tatooed, army-booted, quite drunk-looking guys and a girl propped up on the sidewalk outside Burt's. They were shouting and mumbling in tongues to passersby.
Todd & Cynthia wanted to check out this little place that featured a rock group from Chicago -- Low Skies. No cover charge. Low Skies was interesting. Their music was original. They all looked like they were 17 or 18 at best. The lead singer must have injected collagen into his eyelids. If their guitars had been in tune, we might have stuck around longer.
Oh well, we still had a real fun time....on Friday night................. in downtown Albuquerque.

WOO-HOO! WE HAD RAIN YESTERDAY!!!
and HAIL! and Thunder & Lightning!!! It was a GULLY-WASHER!!!
Our rain gauge in the backyard showed 0.7" rainfall. That's the most we've had in over 3 months! It was wonderful -- even the 1/2" hailstones!
Today is without rain, so far. We're hoping for some more to come along. At least it cooled things off nicely. It was only 56 deg this morning -- so refreshing. There are some storm clouds on the horizon, so maybe we'll get lucky again this afternoon. Crossing my fingers!

Yippee!!! It's FRIDAY!!!!
Been back home in Abq for 3 days, now, and it's great to be enjoying the lack of humidity again. I swear, the humidity on the east coast just wears me out this time of year. I'm like a limp dishwrag full of dishwater -- just kind of slogging along.
Looking forward to getting started on some yard work this weekend. We've put it off long enough.
One of the reasons I love my job as a Network Admin is because I get to solve problems. I just finished resolving an issue where the "automated account information" PC wasn't available on the network since that office moved to a new location. If the PC isn't on the network, we can't upload fresh account data to it. There were a couple tweaks that it needed, but the final issue was the Gateway IP was still set on the old gateway at the old office. I'm good. :)
And I'm going to enjoy sipping a nice glass of red wine when I get home from work this evening!!!
