Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

Halloween is alive and well in West Virginia. Excerpt from today's Charleston Daily Mail News:

In Rand, a man known as "Big Zeke" ran after a group of youths who allegedly egged his house. No charges were filed in the incident.

Now THAT'S some news!!!!!

Now if this isn't a hell of a lot SCARIER than Halloween goblins, I don't know what is. Apparently, the Sun is unloading on Earth BIGTIME. Here is a quote from a CNN.com article that I just read, and it gives me the willies:

"It's like the Earth is looking right down the barrel of a giant gun pointed at us by the sun...and it's taken two big shots at us," said John Kohl of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

"I have not seen anything like it in my entire career as a solar physicist. The probability of this happening is so low that it is a statistical anomaly," he said in a statement Thursday.

Good thing I got a thrill out of watching my WVU Mountaineers kick butt on Va Tech Wed night, because the Niners sure didn't give me much to cheer about yesterday.

At least Wayne's Chiefs are still undefeated!!!

Let's GOOOOOOOOO!!! MountainEERS!!!!!!!

High and Dry in the high desert

We were chatting with a professional landscape contractor yesterday evening. He said he had recently attended a xeriscaping conference here in Albuquerque. One interesting bit of info he picked up at that conference was: tree ring studies in the area show this summer is the driest the middle Rio Grande Valley has had in 1400 years! Yow!

It wasn't just my imagination that we are dry dry dry -- as dry as dry can be.

I'm so thankful we do have enough water for our everyday living, and even for people around here to water their bermuda grass lawns. Wayne & I will never plant grass in our yard here in Abq. We're looking into buying a couple rain barrels to harvest whatever precious drops fall from the sky in the future.

In the meantime, it's a picture-perfect sunshine & blue sky day out there today. Perfectly gorgeous, and around 80 deg.

ERIC MCFADDEN TRIO

Woo-Hoo! New CD out for Eric, James, and The Commander: "Diamonds to Coal". It's good!

We got to see them rock out on Friday night at The Launchpad. They were just awesome. Good hometown crowd turnout for these hometown boys who now hail from Seattle and San Francisco. Even Jame's wife, Emily, flew in from Seattle for the occasion, and his sister, Nancy, flew in from Portland! It was great to see all of them. Of course, James' parents were there, too. It was awesome!

Wayne & I had fully intended on driving to Taos Saturday evening to see them play again in Arroyo Hondo at Herb's Lounge. I got stuck babysitting a server that blew a power supply on Saturday afternoon at the office. Total bummer. Oh well, that's life, baby. There will be another time for us to do that in the future, I'm sure.

In the meantime, go buy that CD and give it a good listen.
