How NICE to have a day OFF!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to circumstances beyond my control, it's been quite a while since I've had a day off work during the week. I had a supremely RELAXING day today, and am thoroughly enjoying every minute.
One of the highlights of my day was experiencing English High Tea with my friend Adrienne. St. James Teahouse, near Old Town in Albuquerque serves traditional English tea three times a day. Their teas and presentation are impeccable, and for 2 hours you completely forget you are in the dry southwest. Being a tea lover for my entire life, I have to say that this is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable ways to spend 2 hours I have found in Albuquerque. Thank you, Adrienne, for introducing me to such a lovely spot in Albuquerque. St. James Teahouse provides 3 good pots of English teas, served on fine china, and 3 trays of exquisite savory and sweet delights to nibble. You must provide your own company and conversation. With Adrienne, that is no problem!!! I even had some leftovers to bring home to Wayne!!!
Afterwards, I even got to visit MJ, & her ever-entertaining mutt, Chili Boy!!
Now, I have broken into a wonderful bottle of Sterling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvingnon. Simply the BEST!
Ahh well........... back to work tomorrow.
The Deal of the Winter Sale Season!!!
I pride myself on never paying full retail price for clothing. I take time to look for bargains and check out sales. I spend frugally. The deal I got on a pair of jeans this week just about takes the cake for bargains.
Sears has now started carrying a limited selection of Lands End clothing items. Everything that comes from Lands End is extremely high quality in fabric, design and construction. Lands End is not cheap. I just happened to cruise through Sears on my lunchtime walk a couple days ago. I've looked at their Lands End selections several times in the past. They're always too expensive. There was a sale rack with about 6 items -- very sparse. Lo and behold there was a pair of jeans in my size!! When I looked at the tag, they'd been marked down to $7.99! Good grief! I practically ran with them to the cashier. Much to my total and complete amazement, when they were rung up, the total was a whopping $4.22!!!! YOWZA! It seems they were taking 50% off the marked down price.
I am wearing these wonderful jeans today. They are, indeed, my perfect size, and they are, indeed, of the highest quality. I almost feel guilty getting them for such peanuts.
Let's hear it for good deals on wintertime sales!!!
Another side note: I also bought a winter sweater at a great sale price from Nordstrom.com about a month ago. When it arrived, I figured I wouldn't get a chance to wear it until this fall. HA! HA! Our weather has been so cold, I've worn it at least 3 times!! It's supposed to get down to 30 deg on Monday night -- opening night for the Albuquerque Isotopes! Brrr! I'll probably wear that sweater again for that.
Baseball at Last!!! only the weather didn't know it!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We attended our first Isotopes game of the season this afternoon. I was having flashbacks of Candlestick Park in mid-July: 20 mph sustained winds, clouds, mist; so cold you had to wear a hat and gloves!!! We went in search of coffee the end of the 2nd, and waited 10 min for them to brew some.
It was, in fact, a lovely opening of this pre-season exhibition game with the Marlins. We had a spot of sunshine just prior to the game, and the first 2 innings. The Topes were leading 5-1 at the beginning of the 3rd. I just loved Billy the Marlin mascot. Orbit was in fine form, too!
From there it was a blur. We stood in line for coffee, then went and found our buddies way 'round by the right outfield. The Pro Shop had such a long line none of us went in. That was OK, we all had our Topes gear on from last year. It was a great crowd considering it was such crappy weather.
By the end of the 5th, we'd walked and talked and found our friends... walked and talked some more, and the end of the coffee was like ice. The sun went in, the rain headed our way, so we split for the parking lot -- just in time to get in out of the icy rain and wind. The Frontier Restaurant was warm and inviting, and our enchiladas were simply PERFECT.
I hate hate hate DST!! It will be midnight before I feel like going to sleep, then I'll be crawling out of my nice warm bed, into the dark at 4:30am. Blech!

Albuquerque Isotopes Baseball!!!! Woo-hoo!!!
Their first game of the season, an exhibition game, is Sunday. They are playing the World Champion Marlins!!! We get to see the World Champion Trophy, too!!! We're SOOO excited, we can't stand it.
Just our luck, a couple of cold fronts with falling temps and rain are moving into the area just in time to dampen our game. Oh well... we need the precipitation so badly, I can't even complain very much about it. Even if we have to wear our down jackets to the ballpark, and our Isotopes microbrew gets rain in it, we'll have a good time anyway.
Play Ball!!!!
