Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

Talk about DRIVING a LOT!

Since Wed morning, we have driven from Kansas to North Carolina.  That's a ton of driving.

Wed evening, we ended up in Poplar Bluff, MO.  What a gorgeous town down in Ozark country.  We cruised a nice stretch of US-60 highway to get there, and enjoyed every minute.

One of the highlights of our trip, so far, was crossing the Mississippi River at Cairo, IL.  What a little piece of the twilight zone.  We had no idea that Cairo is situated on a tiny point of land between Missouri, the Missippi River, the Ohio River and Kentucky.  There is even a park right on that point where the Ohio dumps it's mighty flow right into the even mightier Mississippi.  It was a rush to stand right there and look at flowing river as far as the eye could see.  We crossed the Missippi then drove down that point of land to it's tip, and hung out taking pictures, and observing a tugboat moving a huge barge around.  Then crossed the Ohio into Kentucky.  The town of Cairo, itself, was like it was frozen in another time.  There weren't even any people walking around or cars that weren't parked.  Weird.  Just at the edge of town, as we were leaving, we saw severl guys up on top of the Nat'l Guard Bldg, doing some maintenance work.

OK, we're doing the Pig Pickin thing tomorrow.   Can't wait to eat BBQ.

We are still getting unpacked. We're in much better shape than we were a week ago, but we've still got some more to do before things are the way they need to be. Oh well, that's just the way it goes.

Getting ready to hit the road again -- headed for the Jones Pig Pickin' family reunion in North Carolina. Yum yum, BBQ pork and chicken!!! Over a hundred relatives to mingle with!

I am still in shock at finding a job so quickly in our new town. I accepted a full-time position yesterday as Office Manager for a local home builder. It will be quite a change from my last job -- a welcome change. Change is good.

Can't say enough about how much I LOVE MY NEW TOSHIBA SATELLITE NOTEBOOK! IT'S AWESOME! and so is Best Buy for having such an awesome deal.

Today we will officially "become Kansans". We're headed for the DMV to get our new drivers licenses, and plates for the cars.

Woo-hoo!!

Woke up to the sound of a neighbor's weedeater, and the smell of fresh cut grass.

We rode our bicycles around the neighborhood yesterday. We passed several small streams.

Today, there is more unpacking to be done. If we're lucky, we'll find our silverware today. We found the teakettle last night.

We love Lawrence.

Everytime we think "it just couldn't get any better", .... it DOES!!!

This morning we walked over to the local espresso deli. It was closed yesterday for the 4th. It was open this morning, going full force. We both enjoyed the best soy lattes we've been served anywhere, with tastey breakfast treats to accompany, all served by a personable young man named Brandon.

The fellow at Best Buy who sold me my new Toshiba notebook was named Kevin, and he was even able to fully explain the hyper-threading technology included in my hardware configuration.

We have yet to go anywhere or do anything in this town that people weren't helpful and pleasant. Even when our landlord knocked on the door unexpectedly at 10am this morning, he immediately requested to come back later when Wayne answered the door in his sweats. Pretty darned nice for a bank president.

We love our local cornfield. It's a great sight whenever we turn east down W 6th St.

We took a little drive west to check out the local bike path, and wound up in the countryside outside of Lawrence, towards Clinton Lake. It truly is out in the country. We're going to ride out there tomorrow morning.

Woo-hoo!

We are screaming at 1.9Mbps.

Well, it just doesn't get any better than this:
a field of blooming white clover in the grassy area to the east; young brown bunnyrabbits wandering and nibbling on the lush growth in the low-lying spots of the backyard area; little puffy clouds in the sunset sky; tired beyond words at unloading all our belongings from the U-hauls; and, last night, a loud frog croaking in the bush beside our front door.

and, the most miraculous of occurences -- our cable broadband service connected within 5 minutes of hooking up all the same network equipment, with no configuration changes on any of it. The wireless connection on the laptop popped so quick it made our heads swim!

Anyone who's had some lengthy experiences connecting network equipment to the internet, and having the PCs connect, too, will think I'm making it all up and telling a big tale. hahahahaha!!! Lucky for us, I'm speaking the honest-to-goodness truth.

Woo-hoo! We're now OFFICIALLY MOVED IN to our new place in Lawrence!!!! and WE LIKE IT!!!!

There is nothing quite so tastey as a perfect, fresh cannoli stuffed with delicious chocolate chip filling. Especially when enjoyed with fresh, strong coffee. Particularly after a perfect meal of wonderful Nrn Italian pasta primavera, accompanied by just about the most yummy crusty white bread we've had the pleasure to be served in an Italian restaurant. And who would have dreamed of coming across this jewel of Italian dining in Enid, Oklahoma?

Actually, the jacuzzi tub was the real treat at the end of our fine dining experience this evening. :)

And thanks to Jack for convincing us there was room to park both our U-hauls on his motel lot, and recommending Zino's to us.
