Another nice afternoon cruising around the Kansas side of Kansas City. We really like the little shopping/eating district around 80th and Metcalf in Overland Park. We ended up there almost as if by divine intervention about a year ago, on our first scouting expedition to Kansas. Now, here we are, a year later, living in Lawrence and driving back to that same area to enjoy an afternoon. We happened upon a really rockin' sports bar called The Other Place. We looked in the window and it looked like a small, sedate little place. We walked in, and lo and behold, it was JAMMED with folks, about 30 TVs all showing college football games, people yelling and cheering and chanting. On top of that, the Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat was only $2.50/pint, and the food was awesome! How about THAT!

A few blocks away was a great Farmer's Market, but we were too late to get in on that. A few blocks the other way was the Rio Theater -- just a real nice place with decent prices and funky films.

It took us about 10 min to drive down to 95th St and find Costco. We were very pleased with our first visit to the local Costco, which we had also located a year ago. Even better, after we left Costco, we just had to cruise on west down 95th to hit I-435, then K-10, and made it back home in less than 1/2 hr. Woo-hoo!

Yes, we are glad to be in Lawrence.

Goooooo Sox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo-hoo! ..........just saw Damon smash that 4th inning homer all the way into the upper deck at Yankee Stadium. Yee-haw! Now if those Sox can hold onto their 8-1 lead, it will be great.

I did something this evening that I've always thought about doing, but just never did. I bought a lotto ticket using the numbers I got in my fortune cookie at the Jade Garden Restaurant this evening. We'll see if they're "lucky"! :) If the numbers are as good as my cashew chicken, then I'll certainly be a winner.

Still digging all the fog and mist................ never got above 54 deg all day... just lovin it....

Fog and Mist!

I just LOVE Fog and Mist! It took living in the desert for 8 years to make me realize how much I absolutely love that cloud down on the ground.... the humidity sticking to my skin.... my glasses getting all cloudy from it. I just can't breathe it deep enough.......... fog and mist..... this is our second day in a row of fog and mist here in Lawrence, along the rivers Kansas and Wakarusa.

I hope we have it for 2 more days.......

I spent a couple hours, all told, messing with getting an inkjet printer back in action this afternoon. The software which monitors the ink level wasn't installed, so the wrong cartridge got switched out. Finally got the ink monitor utility working, only to find out the color cartridge was empty, not the black. Fun fun. At least the printer is now working perfectly, and I did find some fantastic deals on a couple types of inkjet paper at Office Depot this afternoon. I was really worried I'd get down there and they wouldn't have my ink cartridge. Luckily, they had it, and for a very decent price.

We sure did have a fine, long after-dinner walk this evening. It was barely 50 deg. The brisk temp made the walk that much more refreshing.

Yes, it's October in KS. . . . . . . . . . and I LIKE IT!

TGIF!
That's the total, simple gist of this blog.

It's been a wild week at work, but worth the effort.

This glass of cabernet hits the spot. mmmmmmmmmmmmm smooth.

RECORD LOW IN LAWRENCE LAST NIGHT!!!!

For at least the 2nd time since we moved to KS, we've had a record low set overnight. Last night was down to 34 deg. Right now it's 35. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Actually, we love this cooler weather. What a great way to bring in the month of October. Now, when I see the football highlights on TV, I enjoy them more with this nip in the air. We walked around downtown for a little while last night, after enjoying some absolutely delicious ( and cheap) wood-fired pizza at Papa Keno's. Yum Yum. The wind was quite brisk ushering in the cold front, and my two layers of sweaters felt really good. We decided to stop by Milton's Cafe for some decaf espresso to go to take the chill off. That really hit the spot.

Well, now you know how we relax on Friday night in Lawrence -- gourmet pizza (without the gourmet price) then espresso (with soy) for dessert! :)

On a different note:

I've never been one to stay in bed for any length of time. I just like getting up and getting going. I'm your quintessential "morning person". Well, this morning I'm breaking away from my usual routine and sitting in bed with my wi-fi laptop, watching The Weather Channel, and sipping my mug of English Breakfast. (I could have used a wi-fi laptop when I was recovering from surgery a few years ago.... oh well.....). It's this chilly morning that's making staying under the quilt more enjoyable. We've got the window cracked open -- just enough to let that chilly fresh air in. We did sleep really well last night.

Geez!!! Now the Weather Channel say we've dropped down to 33 deg in the past hour! I guess the morning breeze is kicking in.

Gonna enjoy this nice fall weather on this Saturday morning.
