We have a lot to be thankful for... no doubt about it.
Our Thanksgiving Day was spent with family, and it was absolutely wonderful. Our drive down to Yates Center and back was equally wonderful -- it was beautiful in the daytime going down, and the 1-day-shy-of-full moon on the way back last night was magnificent!
We finally ate at our mid-way pitstop, Beto Junction. It's a well-known truckstop restaurant at the intersection of I-35 and US 75. It was packed with folks enjoying the all-you-can-eat Thanksgiving Buffet. We only wanted a bite to tide us over until dinner at Beth & Mike's, so we skipped the buffet. However, the food we had was homemade and delicious. We'll probably go back there again sometime for a meal. It's an hour south from Lawrence and 40 mi north from Yates Center. Just the right spot to stop on our Lawrence-Yates Center trek.
I'm off today, getting a paid holiday. Ya-hoo! Wayne's working today, but making double OT. Ya-hoo Ya-hoo!! Yes, we are very thankful, indeed.

Wayne & I have a whole lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Our move from Albuquerque to Lawrence was successful; we have a warm, energy-efficient place to live; we are both employed; we're both healthy.
Yes, we have a lot to be thankful for.
We are ecstatic to be driving down to Yates Center to visit Wayne's mother, then have the big turkey dinner at Beth & Mike's, at the farmhouse in Toronto, along with all their kids and grandkids. That's what Thanksgiving is all about.
The company where I now work closes at noon on Wednesday, and is closed the rest of the week. If that isn't a truly wonderful paid holiday, then I don't know what is. I am going to thoroughly enjoy my Thanksgiving holiday.

Ever since Steve Mariucci took over as head coach of the Detroit Lions, I found myself pulling for the Lions, hoping that Mooch would have great success there. I never had any reason to not like Detroit, the "motor city". But after watching all the re-runs of those fans at that Pistons-Pacers game the other night, pouring popcorn and drinks on top of the players heads as they departed into the locker room, I found myself hoping the Pistons never win another game, and that the fans of Detroit find themselves without any sports tourism in their city. Fans like that don't deserve teams, or sports facilities. It wouldn't surprise me if someone like Mooch, who is of the highest integrity, might start looking around for another town to call home.
I decided to see what the hometown boys had to say about their fans, so I went to the website of the Detroit Free Press, and found that the local press is just as disgusted as the rest of the nation at the display of insanity by those Piston fans. One article is by AP writer John Porretto, and the other is by DFP Sports writer Drew Sharp. Both have very derisive attitudes about the whole situation.
I just hope I never have to witness anything like that whenever I decide to attend a sports event in the future.
Maybe the fans just shouldn't be able to enjoy alcohol with their sporting events anymore. That might solve the whole situation. Or maybe the drinking water shold be spiked with Prozac, that might help things out, too!

Ya Gotta Luv It!!!
We found a letter in our mailbox yesterday evening from our ISP, Sunflower Broadband. We knew it wasn't our monthly bill, because it was still sitting on the desk to be paid next week. hmmmmmm ..... what on earth could it be?.... probably just an ad to sell move PPV movies. Much to our total and absolute dismay, it was a notice informing us that our download bandwidth had been increased to 6MB at NO EXTRA CHARGE!!!!! Holy mackerel! Are we crosseyed? Are we reading this correctly?!?!?!
Yes!
Need I say more? :)
Thanks Sunflower!

New job, new career path.....
I've spent the past 2 weeks in pursuit of a specific job with a fine company here in my new hometown. This company interviewed me 3 times before offering me the position I had applied for, including a lunch with the entire department I'll be working with, at a local bar & grill called Set 'Em Up Jacks. If that isn't hip, I don't know what is. These folks want to know up front whether or not the person who's gonna be helping them help each other earn an honest living is gonna work out. I'm all for that, and I guess they decided I'll fit in OK. I start my new job and new career in Customer Service/Order Entry on Monday. I believe I'll be working for this company until I am ready to retire.
This company has been doing business successfully in the KC area since 1939. They moved their entire operation to a brand new facility that they built here in Lawrence 5 years ago. I feel very confident about working for a company with that kind of track record. They are the kind of folks I want to work for, and with, not to mention the fact that the pay and benefits are simply superb. Thank you God!

Great football!
We thoroughly enjoy college football. There are more surprises, upsets and take-nothing-for-granted types of plays in college football. Sometimes the NFL is just way too static, because everyone is so good.
With that in mind, we just now witnessed one of the most surprising, exciting plays we've ever seen in college OR the NFL football: a faked punt resulting in a touchdown!!!!
The Texas A&M Aggies are hosting the OK Sooners. A&M was on 3rd and 20 when they got to within 1 yard of making the 1st down. They brought out the punter, and we both remarked that we thought they should go for the 1st down anyway. Well, lo and behold, the punter faked a punt PERFECTLY then lobbed a short pass over to one of his buddies who then ran like heck, avoided getting tackled, then ran about 60 yards for a touchdown! Woo-hoo! It was an AWESOME PLAY! I don't think even an NFL punting squad could have executed it any better. Go Aggies!

Not too much longer until the Extended Version of Return of the King hits the stores! I'm waiting with bated breath! Middle Earth is the best thing to happen to my life since I met my husband in 1996. This December will be the first one in 3 years that I haven't been anxiously awaiting a new installment of the trilogy to open in the theaters. However, the extended version of Return of the King will be just about as exciting, if not moreso.
Thank you, Peter Jackson and Crew, for making Middle Earth a reality for this Tolkien fan.

It took 45 minutes standing in line to vote this morning, but it was worth waiting for. Every American should exercise their privilege and right to vote. It should be an interesting evening watching the results come in on TV.
God Bless America!
