They grow 'em BIG in Kansas!!
We took a nice walk in the new-fallen snow yesterday morning, a few hours before it warmed up and melted most of it. We happened upon a Giant Snowman! To get an idea of how BIG the snowman was, my husband standing beside it, is 6 ft tall.

We will miss her.
I found this picture that Hazelene sent everyone 3 yrs ago, and found it to be comforting:

Ahhhh............. The Weather Channel!!!!
We are COLD and WINDY in Lawrence, today, so what better way to enjoy doing laundry and cleaning house than having The Weather Channel on in the background. The current weather system has been an awesome focus ALL DAY!!! We've watched this low trek eastward, and it's supposed to dump a couple feet on Philly, NYC and Beantown. Mike Siedel is broadcasting from the football field in Philly, and they are in overdrive with their snow removal process. Those Eagles fans won't have too much problem watching that game tomorrow, considering the enormity of the snowstorm!
Just got a "report" from our Wisconsinite relatives that they've got 6-8" in Fond du Lac, and 12-15" in Milwaukee! They have been shovelling.
We are still trying to shake off our coughs and congestion. It's more annoying than anything -- all this mucous crap. Oh well, at least we're not sick, so that's something to be thankful for (hack hack cough cough).
Current wind chill is 0 deg.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Our high yesterday was 12 deg, and today it got up to 15!!!! We are under the arctic air mass. Today was the first time I've gotten out onto a frozen pond since I was about 10 yrs old. The city of Lawrene flooded the low spot in one of their little downtown parks, and it's now a nice-sized ice rink!!! Several guys were practicing some ice hockey, a little girl was practicing on training skates, and I got out onto it with my hiking boots and did the run `n' slide thing! It was a blast! Didn't stay out there too long, though. It was COLD!!!
Gonna get down to 6 deg tonight. It's a good night for staying home and watching the football game, eating hot homemade soup, and doing laundry.

We ended up with 3/8" to 1/2" of icing by last night. We've ended up with about 3 inch of snow on top of that. Hopefully all the falling weather is pretty much spent. I spent about an hour getting all the ice off the front and side windows of the Ranger. Leaving that plastic garbage bag over the driver's door was the best move I could have made, otherwise it would have taken a lot longer to get inside the car and start it up.
I drove a couple blocks this afternoon, stopping by MacDonalds for a great cup of coffee, then Dillons grocery for a couple things. The roads were snow covered, but not slick. The Rangette did just fine, but I didn't think it was worth risking driving all the way downtown to the post office. The mail isn't going anywhere. There wasn't any mail in our mail pedestal up here by our townhouse. There were only about 3 employees at MacDonalds, and 2 other customers besides me. The grocery had about a dozen customers, and 1 checkout line. Not too bad for such a wintery day.

We are in the Belly of the Beast!!!! The ICE STORM has descended upon our town, and is supposed to pound us for the next 24+ hours! Sleet, freezing rain, then snow on top of that in the morning. Yowza!
We filled both vehicles with gas, have plenty of water, batteries, candles & matches, hot water in the thermos, food that doesn't need cooking to eat it, and warm blankets.
Meanwhile, I am at home taking antibiotics to get rid of this nasty upper respiratory infection that has it hooks in me. It seems the keflex is doing it's job. It's the first time in about 10 yrs that my body has ingested any antibiotics.
So it goes .... 30 mi west of KC.

2005 is here, and we don't have one new calendar to put on our walls!! Aauugh! Guess we'll have to go find a sale somewhere, and get a few new calendars. Or maybe I'll just print a page off of MS Word Calendar Wizard ...... that might be a quick temporary solution.
Too much football........................................ Geez, there were some REAL football games this weekend! That Rose Bowl game was just about the BEST! Sorry we didn't watch that Iowa/LSU game, but we happened to switch to that channel just as they showed the replay of the final Iowa touchdown. My gosh, what an ending ....
Well, back to the same old same old on Monday morning. We get to enjoy sleet and freezing rain. Oh joy.
