Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

We certainly did enjoy attending Yates Center Days this year without having to drive several days from Albuquerque to get there. This year, we only had to drive 2 hrs!

One of the many reasons we moved to Lawrence was realized this weekend. We attended Yates Center Days weekend without having to take a whole week off from work or spend 100's of dollars just to get there and back, and weren't worn out from the road when we got there! Ya-hoo!

It was an incredible family reunion -- just the best.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!!

We Love Lawrence, KS

and that's an understatement. You just never know what's gonna be happenin' in this little burg. We went down to the PO as usual on Sat morning to check our PO Box and just happened to find downtown chock full o folks and parked cars.... and wild wacky vehicles and funmobiles put together for Lawrence' annual "Art Car Tougeau". We particularly enjoyed the Flying Saucer, the Fake-Fur-Covered Limo, and the Boat-Mobile. One kid that went by on this bicycle had a muffler pipe welded to the backseat on his bike, with the muffler sticking up in the air. Cool.

Everybody was enjoying the beautiful morning. We hit our usual Z's Coffee for soy mochas, then Wayne got a haircut at Rex's barber shop while I watched their flat-panel showing the local TV Ch. 6 of last night's high school baseball game (Lawrence Free State vs Topeka). Then we hit a hot dog vendor at Massachusett's St @ 10th, which was something we'd never seen downtown before. It was good -- and definitely a worthy cause!

Now we are back home doing weekend "stuff".

We haven't been to a KC T-Bones baseball game yet this season, but plan to attend when my employer company picnic is there in June! Wayne was just reading the KC Star website about the T-Bones latest fan pleaser: phone-in pizza delivery from your seat! "...Nick n Willy's at the T-Bones Stadium purportedly is now providing this service for fans watching the game. They can call in the order on their cellphone..." :) :) :)

gonna check that out when we go!!! Woo-hoo!

My first springtime in Kansas!!!

The cornfields are planted and growing at an astounding rate! It's amazing to see the young corn shoots sprouting and seemingly 3" taller than the day before! Woo-hoo! Must be all that rain!!! Must be all that sunshine!!! Must be all that wonderful plowed fertile earth!!!

"...I like it, love it, yes I do...."

Springtime in Kansas.... thunderstorms.... tornadoes....

Right now we are in the middle of a line of severe storms rolling in from the southwest to the northeast. Plenty of soaking rain; plenty of lightning and thunder. Just perfect to go to sleep by.

My laptop loses it's public wireless virginity...

I've owned my laptop nearly a year, now, and tonight is the first time I've taken it out in public and connected to the internet via public wireless access. For one reason or another, it's just never been on the agenda. So, TGIF!!!!

We're in a bar called Limerance, and I'm sipping a Newcastle Ale poured from the tap. Aaaahhhhh! They are having a nice wine tasting for $10, but I'm not in the mood for wine tonight. The Newkie is hitting the spot for me.

OK, I guess I better get busy re-sending the e-mail I sent right before we left home, but forgot to attach the photo! hahaha!

"...Just a little bit west of Minnesota, just a little bit east of old Cheyenne..."

.... that's a line from a song called SOUTH DAKOTA, and that's where I've been for the past 2 days. It was my first trip to SD. We visited the lower, southeast corner, around Yankton and Wagner. I have to say that the folks are exceptional, and the farmland is verdant. I will definitely be coming back, and next time my dear hubby will accompany me! This particular trip was time well spent with my Mother, sister, and sister's sweetie. We visited with my cousin and her hubby, and well as her Dad, my 98-yr old uncle, all of whom we hadn't seen in 10 yrs. My Uncle is doing remarkably well in a lovely assisted-living apartment in Yankton. You would never know his age if you just met him. He gets around!

I was extremely impressed with the lushness of the Missouri River valley, and all the parks and campgrounds along it's banks. Yes, we will definitely be back this way, along with all our camp gear.
