My 21st Century Self has fused with my Groovy 70s Self.
I unearthed my turntable from the bowels of the boxes in the garage this evening. I hadn't planned on digging it out, but the spirit moved me, and I found the box it was in, and here I am: headphones plugged into the receiver and playing my old 45s with the headphones blasting out Deep Purple's "Hush, hush, I thought I heard her callin' my name...." and Mason Williams' "Classical Gas" while I surf the net and Blog on my Toshiba Satellite widescreen notebook on our wireless LAN. I guess when I unpacked all my albums last weekend, something inside me said "it's time to get the turntable plugged in". I haven't listened to anything on my turntable in well over a year, and not a whole lot in the past 5 yrs. But, now that my albums are more visible to me on a daily basis, I find myself wanting to hear those wonderful tunes again -- especially the ones I haven't gotten around to getting in the CD version. My 45s and albums collection isn't very big, but it sure is fine. I am amazed I still have them after all these years.
I thought it quite interesting that the first 45 I pulled out and played was Steams' "Na Na Hey Hey". It is also quite interesting that I find as much groove power in that tune now as I did in the 8th grade. hmmmmmmmmmmm.......................

I work in a special place, and I really like my job. My co-workers are smart and interesting. The family-owned business fosters employee loyalty, good morale, and are in the 3rd generation of excellence in their area of expertise, keeping firm hold of their market niche.
All that aside, I was particularly impressed this afternoon with one aspect of my workplace I hadn't quite noticed or grasped. When I drove back to work from lunch this afternoon, I came down the street, round the side of the hill to our office building driveway and glanced over to the adjacent verdent hillside to my left. There, less than 100 yards away from my modern, state-of-the-art work environment was a very content herd of cattle, all laying down in the mist and drizzle, contentedly chewing their cud in the wet grass under the trees.
I love Kansas.

Saturday's rain event was a bonafide flash flood!!! Quite a number of roads were closed due to high water. The official rain total at the Lawrence airport, according to the Weather Channel, was 3.47". Our rain gauge measured 3.6" for that event. Yowza!!
We are quite thankful our recently purchased home is quite waterproof and our neighborhood stayed free of flooding.

....Got Rain???.....
Yes, we got rain. We took a walk downtown to stop by the PO and pick up our mail, then check out Mass St with all the freshmen and their parents running in and out of the shops spending money like mad. I told Wayne we had entered the "spend zone". :)
Anyway, there was a chance of showers, so I strapped 2 umbrellas to my water tote just in case. We are about halfway home when the first round of showers came through. It was a brief shower then stopped. About 10 min from the house it started raining in earnest. We were glad it was just coming straight down with no wind. We got home around 2:30 in the downpour. I checked the rain gauge and it had 2 in. in it -- our total accumulation since early Friday morning.
It is now just past 3pm, and the rain gauge has OVER 3 INCHES!!! YES, WE GOT RAIN and it is STILL POURING!!!! I checked the Weather Channel, and there's more headed this way!!!
Woo-hoo!!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We stopped by a little shop downtown that sells soaps, oils, fragrant herbs, incense, Tarot Cards, etc. It smelled great. Those little shops always do. I bought a wonderful bar of homemade Patchouli soap. Not only does it smell divine, it is multi-layered and embossed with a beautiful design. The top, embossed layer has ground oyster grit, with the lower layer a moisturizing balm. The bathroom is gonna smell wonderful, and so am I when I get done with my shower! :) That was my big indulgence for the day.
I think the rain is actually getting harder!!! It's now 3:16, and the rain gauge has 4 inches!!!! Woo-hoo again!!
