Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

We really enjoy our neighborhood walks in the evenings -- especially now that the temps are cooling down a bit. There are several different routes we can take round this part of town to make our walks interesting and enjoyable. Our neighborhood has a comfortable feel to it -- well worn and homegrown.

Dunno if the Chiefs are gonna do a darn thing at Mile Hi. Maybe the 2nd half will be better.

I heard thunderstorms in the distance and rain on our roof during the night last night. We drove to work in the midst of a really good downpour/thunderboomer this morning. There were a couple more rounds of it thoughout the morning. Around noon the rain stopped, but it remained cloudy and much cooler throughout the rest of the day.

I just now checked the rain gauge in our back yard. We got 4 inches since yesterday!! Yowza!

We heard on the radio that Topeka set a record for 1-day rainfall today: 5.6 inches!

Definitely a wet day in Lawrence, KS. Now it's time to go for a nice, cool walk.

We are saying prayers for those in the path of Hurricane Rita.

I can't help it. I really like the new homespun little Budweiser ditty they've been playing during TV commercial breaks the past couple weeks. It's a heartfelt hummable tune, and I like it.

Here are the lyrics:
This is who I am, this is where I'm from, this is what I believe when the day is done. This is Budweiser, this is Budweiser, this is Budweiser, this is beer.

So there.

The entire Katrina disaster has seemed surreal... like something that's taking place far far away, not just a couple days' drive from where I live.

We started watching Fox News shortly after all heck broke loose a week ago. The past couple days, the Fox reporters have gone after the direness of the situation like coon dogs on the hunt -- relentless. It's all becoming much more real to the viewer.

Oddly enough, for the first time ever, I am actually appreciating what Geraldo Rivera is doing. I never thought I would see that day that I could stomach Geraldo's brand of journalism, but today was the day.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone affected by that chaos.

Thank goodness for 3-day weekends. Thank goodness for having a good job that I enjoy. Thank goodness for a home & town we enjoy living in. Thank goodness our friends from Mandeville, LA are safe and sound and have re-located themselves permanently to Oklahoma City.
