We finally went to the theater and saw King Kong. We found a theater about 1/2 hr drive away, in Shawnee Mission. Nice theater... GREAT movie! I really could care less what kind of nit-picking the various "movie afficionados" pass on to everyone else. This movie was entertaining and engaging from the first moment to the last!!
Peter Jackson & Crew score again! Great Big Two Thumbs ( and 2 Big Toes) UP!!!

I ate too much cake at work today. But it was fun doing it. :) I guess that's why we only have a birthday once a year.

We moved to Lawrence in July 2004. Ever since we arrived, we keep experiencing good people, places and things around this town that create joy in our lives. It's the little things that make life worth living, and we love this "little" town.
For the first time in my entire life, I received a birthday greeting card from the people where I bank! I was shocked! The branch near my office has the nicest folks in there, including our mortgage officer. They all know mine and my husband's name, and go out of their way to say hello everytime we happen to be there. I just about dropped my eyeteeth when I pulled an envelope out of the mailbox this evening, and opened that card -- signed by all of them.
What a wonderful world we have found in Lawrence, Kansas, USA.

LET'S GO!!!!! Mountaineers!!!!!
I am still thrilled that WVU beat UCLA AT UCLA this afternoon! How totally awesome! Pittsnogle was Pittsnogle, but Mike Gansey kicked butt!!!! Especially with that incredible "so-fast-you-didn't-know-he-did-it" steal to win the game! That guy has definitely got the touch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning, at 10am, I had my first massage therapy in 20 months -- my first massage therapy since we moved to Lawrence. It was excellent, and it was definitely a sacrifice on my part to do without for that long. But, you do what you gotta do sometimes. Our financial belt has been very tight for a very long time, and it is precious to now be able to afford a few amenities. Actually, doing without something for a while tends to make you appreciate it even more. That's certainly the case with my massage therapy, which I used to enjoy every 3 wks for quite a number of years before we moved.
I will sleep well tonight.

Yesterday, Friday the 13th, my uncle turned 99 yrs old! He'd spent his entire life in WV, then 2 years ago moved into a retirement home near his family in SD. It was quite a change, but he is amazingly resilient for a man of that age. He gets around well, cooks light meals, does light housekeeping, and has an extremely healthy sense of humor!
I called him the night before his birthday, and he told me how much he was enjoying examining the contents of the "box of goodies" I had mailed to him. He said that "he had never seen any of these things before, and he was going to read them carefully and experiment with them". The contents of the box was: Orville Redenbacher's microwave popcorn -- Movie version and Smart version; Nutrigrain Cereal Bars -- Apple/Cinnamon and Strawberry; Ghirardelli Chocolates -- individually wrapped. I think that's all I managed to pack into that box.
During our conversation, he related to me how he was born in 1907 in Princeton, WV, and times were quite different back then. He felt that the world has become increasingly more complicated in the past 99 yrs, and honestly wondering what the world was going to be like 99 yrs from now. I have to say that I wholeheartedly agreed with him. To tell you the truth, I don't think I want to know what the world is going to be like in 99 yrs. I'm glad to say that I seriously doubt I'll be around to find out, either, unless my soul decides to return to this life inside a new body.... :)

I'm craving chocolate, and it's 9:30 at night. I want a big chocolate milkshake, or a super dark chocolate fudge sundae from Baskin Robbins. I guess I'll have to pull on the warm jacket and wooly hat and head out into the night for something chocolatey. Sorry Sonic, you just don't cut it. Your "pseudo-can't-quite-call-it-chocolate" milkshakes are pathetic. Even MacDonald's makes better chocolate shakes than Sonic. I doubt we'll be able to make it all the way to B-R before closing, so it will probably be Big Mac's for the chocolate shake.
Hmmmmmm, maybe we should go down the the Bourgeois Pig for a double-chocolate mocha latte with a shot of creme de cacao and whipped cream on top. Now THAT would fix my chocolate craving, wouldn't it? I wouldn't be able to get to sleep til 1pm if I sipped on one of those delights. Better save that particular treat for Friday or Saturday night!

It's a good feeling to be working for a company that is way busier than expected for this time of year. This week has flown by, and I'm glad it's the weekend.
Instead of shovelling snow out of our driveway, we are raking leaves in our yard! It's supposed to hit 60 deg this afternoon. That's a bit too warm for this time of year in northeast KS, but who's complaining? :) I'm still mailing Christmas packages, anyway......

HAPPY 2006!!!!!
We received a phone call from Albuquerque NM at 1 min til Midnight from MJ & Mark's honkin' boffo bash!!!! They were all hollering and making noise! It was only 11pm in Abq, but they called us to ring in the New Year here in KS! Thanks, MJ & Mark! Sorry we weren't able to make it to your gathering. Thanks for the phone call, it was heartening!
We have been enjoying a mild, mostly sunny day for our first day of 2006 here in Lawrence. The Chiefs totally kicked ass out at Arrowhead this afternoon. I finished the rest of the bottle of Piper Sonoma bubbly while enjoying that end of Chief's season, last game of Dick Vermiel's career. sigh....
got a nice pot of beans going; gotta go get some collard greens at the store.......... :)
