Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

I don't get to blog nearly as often as I think about blogging. It always seems I'm in the middle of something else, and don't have time to log in and write about it. Oh well... ces la vie.

We went for a really good, long walk this afternoon -- a few miles and a couple hrs. We had studied the radar before we left, and deduced there wouldn't be a need for rain gear. We were right about that, and got home unscathed. We've been home for about 15 min., and it just now POURED the rain! It only lasted for about 10 min, but we would have been soaking wet if we'd gotten caught in it! How fortuitous for us! :)

Wayne just told me that Marcus Vick didn't get drafted. Why am I not surprised? Who wants a bona fide Thug on their team -- apparently not even the evil Raiders!! Sorry Marcus... You shot the gift horse in the mouth, then stepped on it for good measure!

Where did I go? Over to the alleghenies and appalachians and shenandoahs!!! Green and growing, with spring springing everywhere. breathing fresh mountain misty air.....

Now we're back and it's even more green and growing in the sunflower state. We planted our Monroe CoWV little red cedar tree in the northeast corner of the back yard.

TGIF!

I was reliving part of my past today as we drove south on I-79 between Morgantown and Charleston, WV. I drove over that road many many times between 1973-1984. I'd forgotten how incredibly beautiful the scenery is in the heart of WV. I am so glad we drove that way, on our way home to Lawrence, KS. We are holed up for the night in KY, with clear skies and cool night-time temps -- perfect for sleeping. I will enjoy downloading all the photos I've taken today.

Looking forward to getting back home tomorrow evening.

Happy Birthday Wayne -- yesterday!!!

We had a wonderful b-day celebration at the Outback in Roanoke last night. We were treated by my Mom, sister, and sister-in-law, and it was a lot of fun. A good time was had by one and all, and Wayne really enjoyed the whole evening. Mary Jane made him a delicious super-chocolate Texas sheet cake, but we were so full from dinner at the Outback, we didn't even cut into it until this morning!

Right now we are on wi-fi at MoJo's Espresso on Brambleton in Roanoke, VA. It is quite a relaxing little coffee place, and the wi-fi is working perfectly. Just what we like to find when we are out on a road trip! It's only 2 mi from my Mom's house, whom we are visiting this week.

That's all for now, folks. :)

I can't believe this freakin' weather around here right now!!!!! At this moment, Lawrence, KS is actually HOTTER THAN PHOENIX!!! Phx is 73 deg and we are at 77. Of course, it's still morning, and the sun hasn't actually started to bake everything real good in Phx, but still... just the notion is enough to make me crazy! I can do without this record-breaking heat.

Thank goodness we are headed east to the cool Blue Ridge Mtns of VA. We will breathe some of the fresh mountain mist in the mornings. I am looking forward to hearing my favorite "babbling brook" in the entire world -- Indian Creek of Monroe Co, WV. It is the most beautiful sounding creek I've ever heard, and I'm looking forward to enjoying that sound once again.

Well, I better get back to my packing if we're gonna get out of here on time. :)

We grilled a couple of KC Strip steaks on the Weber this evening -- just perfect weather for it. Plenty of fresh-brewed iced tea to accompany the meal. The neighborhood kids were shooting hoops 2 doors up, and their ball kept going all the way down to the end of the street. They were getting more exercise chasing the runaway ball than dunking shots in the basket. They were definitely having a lot of fun anyway.

I made blueberry muffins this weekend. It was the first time in at least a year that I made homemade muffins. I found some very healthy flour at Hy-Vee -- unbleached blended with oat bran. It makes for some decent muffins with some extra fibre to go along with the treat. Those blueberries burst while cooking, so those muffins were absolutely scrumptious! We put MJ's homemade peach jam on them, too. Yum Yum.

Saturday and Sunday we took long walks. Lots of beautiful blooming flowers and trees to enjoy along the way, while getting that good exercise. It was a very relaxing weekend.

HAPPY ELOPEMENT PARTY -- John & Lisa!!! Wish we could be there with you guys in Ben Lomond!!

Spring is just springing everywhere in Lawrence, right now. It is so exciting to see forsythia, daffodils and hyacinth blooming. The trees are also starting to bud out, and temps are warming up, too. We walked all the way downtown yesterday evening and it was jam-packed with folks. It was a lot of fun, and a great way to get some exercise and fresh air on a Friday night. and that's no April Foolin' :)
