What a lovely rain we had this afternoon!!! It was just sprinkling a bit when I went for a lunchtime walk. It was nice and cloudy. Then, about 2pm, the skies just busted loose, and it rained a wonderful summer rain for a couple hours! What an unexpected surprise from the heavens!

It's freaking HOT in Lawrence this evening!!!! Currently 103 deg! Around 4:30, it was 107!!! Yowza! That's HOT!

Thank goodness relief is on the way on Friday, but we've still gotta get through Thursday. It's supposed to hit 102 on Thurs.

Thank goodness for A/C.

Krispy Kreme Donuts!!!! Woo-hoo!!!

The KC Royals and Krispy Kreme have a season-long special going: If the Royals achieve 12 or more Hits during a game, then ticket holders have 30 days to redeem their ticket at certain Krispy Kreme locations for a free 1-doz donuts!!! As it happened, at the only Royals game we've attended this year, Sunday June 25, the Royals did just that, and beat the Brewers to boot! Oh boy! One of the restrictions of the free doz, it that you may only redeem your lucky ticket Mon-Fri. Living 30 mi away in Lawrence makes it a challenge to get there during the week.

Last night --Friday night, we were watching the Royals play the Bluejays, and they were leading. We had a brainflash to call the "nearest" designated Krispy Kreme store to see how late they stayed open. Much to our delight, they were open til midnight, so we decided to hop in the car at 10pm and drive over there for our free donuts: 2 tks = 2 free doz.

Interestingly, as we got drove out of our driveway, listening to the game on the radio, Matt Stairs achieved Hit #12 for the Royals!!! Now, all of those ticket holders were also eligible for the free donuts, too! It was only the bottom of the 7th, so we figured we would beat the crowd.

We arrived 30 min later in Overland Park, at the Metcalf @ I-435 Krispy Kreme, and it was busy, but not too crowded. Each of us got our free dozen plain glazed donuts -- still warm!!! -- and got coffee and another donut we liked to go along with it. We sat in the donut shop, sipping yummy coffee and nibbling our donut. This particular Krispy Kreme had a viewing area for it's donut-making machinery. It was quite impressive to watch the litte circles of dough moving along the racks; become quite puffed up; get dumped into hot oil; get flipped over; get drained; and finally drizzled with glaze. The crowd was arriving, and the boxes of donuts were being given away as fast as they were being cranked out.

By the time we left Krispy Kreme - about 30 min later - their drive-thru was really long, and people were also lined up out the door going all the way around the building. That was at 11pm. We certainly did beat the crowd.

Guess what we are having for breakfast with our coffee this morning!!!

Happy First Day of July!!! June is gone. We're now plowing through the second half of another year. You know, a year really isn't all that long.

On this day 2 years ago, we were driving cross-country (a 14-ft U-haul moving truck pulling the Ranger on a flatbed carrier, and the VUE pulling a 12 ft U-haul trailer) from Albuquerque, NM to Lawrence, KS. We made it in 3 days. We celebrated 4th of July, 2004 in our newly rented condo.

On this day 1 yr ago, we had finally moved everything into our newly purchased townhome here in Lawerence; glad to be homeowners once again.

Today, we are thrilled to NOT be moving anywhere! Thank goodness we made the previous 2 moves successfully, love where we live, and found gainful employment.

We're sitting in front of the TV in our living rm under the ceiling fan, watching the Royals vs the Cards. We just finished one of my typical homemade meals:
sliced turkey breast that I roasted on charcoal,
spinach fettucini w/tomatoe basil pasta sauce,
steamed mustard greens, and
sauteed spinach w/bell peppers, carrots, pineapple & walnuts. YUM!!!
All that with a cold Busch beer to sip on.

It just doesn't get any better than this.
