Whatever happens to strike my fancy at the moment...

We have accumulated 4.5 inches of rain in our backyard rain gauge since Thurs evening!!!! Woo-hoo!

We made a trip to Costco in Lenexa yesterday afternoon - a lovely 30 min. drive from Lawrence on K10 Hwy. After shopping and getting a good deal on gas, we decided to cruise north on Metcalf from 95th St, just to check things out. We are still learning about the KC metro area.

We ended up in the Farmer's Market shopping district of Overland Park. We'd been there a few times before. It's very inviting, very civilized, and very interesting. We decided to eat at a new place called "Revolver Mexican Cafe & Rock Bar". It had a cool motif on the outside, and the outdoor speakers were playing decent rock music. We entered through the back door, right into the bar area. A very friendly bartender and waitress made us feel comfortable enough to try out the cuisine. We were seated up front in a comfy booth in the dining area. The menu was really interesting. Wayne got beef fajitas, which were sizzling like mad when they were served. I had a "make your own" chicken soft tacos, which were just delicious -- plenty of leftovers for both of us. Good food, cold beer, great service, nice atmosphere, cool neighborhood. We will be going back again sometime.

On our way back home, going south on Metcalf, we found a Whole Foods Market off of 91st St. Of course, everything in there was awesome. We checked out everything in there, but made no purchases. We'll know where it is next time we need something from Whole Foods.

All in all, a relaxing Saturday evening.

We are now watching the Royals vs Blujays. The game is in Toronto. Good thing, since it's now raining again here. :)

There's just nothing quite so tastey on a Saturday morning than a homemade soy mocha latte with plenty of foam, and a tiny drizzle of chocolate syrup on the top. YUM!!!!

We had plenty of rain last night. I'll have to go check the rain gauge to see how much. Only going to get up to the mid-80s today -- heaven!

It's 101 deg outside, so I'm inside with my crockpot going, making crockpot pasta sauce with meatballs. Yum!

It's another sunny Saturday morning in our little berg. The early morning fog is clearing, and we're in for another hot humid "dog day in August!". Darned if the Royals didn't give it up in the 9th last night to the Indians. :(

I was rooting around in the stuff in the spare room last night and found my acrylic paints and paint brushes. Maybe I'm in for some inspiration today....

It's another hot summer day in Lawrence -- another summer weekend, and we're enjoying the day. Just a lazy summer day. We like it that way. :)

We have lived in Lawrence 2 yrs now, and have made it a point to do very little clothes shopping. Our budget has been extremely tight since the move, and clothing is something we seemed to have more than enough of when we moved. Having to pack your crap up and haul it around is a very cleansing exercise. It makes you think several times before buying more crap that you will, at some point in the future, have to pack up again and move around. (thank goodness we aren't moving again anytime in the near future!)

However, when your clothes start becoming threadbare, faded, or falling apart, then it is a justified investment to purchase some new clothes. Being very frugal, we shop sales. The sale we went to at Kohl's doesn't start until tomorrow, but everything was already marked down and available for the sale purchase when we went there this evening. We weren't even really hunting for clothes. We needed a new blind for the living room. We found out Kohl's doesn't carry blinds, but the clothes were on sale. How fortuitous.

I have never seen so many unattractive clothes in my life!! I have a great appreciation for style, whether it be trendy, avante garde or classic. Trendy stuff can still be enjoyable to look at, even if I'm not interested in purchasing it. I have to say that 90% of what we looked at was just not worth looking at -- no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I couldn't find one skirt that was even slightly appealing to me, mainly because they only had about 3 skirts in the whole joint. There were racks and rack of cropped-length pants. I don'twear that length of pants.

I came out of the store with a lovely pair of full length cotton-poly pants that cost me $1.75, two pretty cute cotton tops, and a really nice long knit sweater. Shopping in a store full of mostly unattractive clothes makes it really easy to not spend money.
